What is a Herniated Disk

Your spine has disks that are pads between the vertebrae. These disks act as cushions and minimize the impact of movement on the spine.

The discs have a soft center, called the nucleus. If the disk is ruptured, a herniated disc results.

The soft tissue of the nucleus is pressed out of a crack in the disk exterior and can cause pain, weakness or numbness in an arm or leg if it irritates nearby nerves.

If you believe you have been injured in an accident caused by someone else, you should speak with a personal injury lawyer before talking with your insurance company.
