A recall of millions of vehicles has been announced due to the injuries and deaths attributed to the installation of defective Takata Airbags.
The problem appears to be that the propellant is deteriorating in high humidity which is causing a large explosion when the airbag is deployed.
This larger explosion is shattering the housing that is supposed to contain it and sending metal shrapnel into the vehicle.
These metal projectiles are injuring passengers of the affected vehicles.
