Questions To Ask When Choosing An Attorney

Welcome. My name is Ben Crittenden and I'm a personal injury lawyer and criminal defense lawyer practicing law in Anchorage Alaska. Today’s topic is one question you should always ask an attorney if you are looking for representation.

One question I think you should always ask an attorney is “if you were in my position, Mr. Attorney, who would you hire? Please give me three names of people that you would hire if you were in my position.” I think this is important to know because it's it shows the level of transparency and honesty that the lawyer will we'll be with you throughout your relationship and it also gives you other options to talk to other good lawyers as well. Typically good lawyers aren't concerned about sharing information about who else they would hire because they understand that when they represent you, it's a journey that you're on together and they're not always the right person. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with skills it has to do with personality and skills and values as well.

So typically if I was a client going to see a lawyer one thing I would ask him or her would be “Mr. Attorney if you're in my position please give me three names people that you would hire if you were in my position.” Chances are that if the attorney is open and transparent with you about that question that he will be he or she will be open and transparent with you about other questions as well. It's a good indication that if they answer this in a way that is open and transparent that they're not afraid to share information about other lawyers whom they consider good lawyers that they may be the right attorney for you, because they will be open and transparent with you throughout the attorney-client relationship, throughout your case. So that's our topic to for today, I hope you found it helpful. My name's Ben Crittenden and I'm attorney in Anchorage, Alaska.
