Model Awarded $8.5 Million After Discrimination Lawsuit

Despite laws designed to protect women in the workplace, some employers continue to discriminate against pregnant women. A former Price is Right model, Brandi Cochran, said she was wrongfully refused employment by the Price is Right when she tried to return to work after maternity leave. She sued Fremantle Media North America and the Price is Right Productions, claiming they discriminated against her because of her pregnancy. A Los Angeles jury agreed and awarded her nearly $777,000 in actual damages and approximately $7.7 million in punitive damages.
